Sapele Entandrophragma cylindricum is a reddish brown hardwood from Western & Central African rain forests.

Especially good for painting and for doors

A commonly used tropical hardwood suitable for exterior use with an interlocking grain. Harder than Mahogany and in its resistance to indentation, bending strength, stiffness and to shock loads. It is practically equal with English/European oak although cheaper and less durable than Iroko or Oak. The end grains are porous and can make it more susceptible to movement but this can be offset with adjustable hinges. Sapele’s reddish brown colour which make very attractive gates and finishes well.

Especially suited to painting or stained to a mahogany or dark brown. Weight approx 620 kg/m3. Moderate hardness and weight. Moderately durable.
